There are lots of health benefits of whole grains vs. processed grains, including the fact that many whole grains contain amylase inhibitors which actually help to reduce blood glucose increases after meals (so called postprandial blood glucose increases). All of these health benefits of whole grains apply to the non-diabetic person and still help the diabetic - however in my experience the benefits of whole grains do not sufficiently make up for the fact that they are still mostly carbohydrates.
